Salesforce acquires Slack for over $27b

Salesforce & Slack deal

Salesforce, the world’s Top CRM, has signed a megadeal to buy the leading workplace instant messaging platform Slack for $27,7b.

The transaction has been sealed with a deal that includes a combination of shares and stock.

The terms specify that Slack shareholders will get $26.79 in cash and 0.0776 shares of its new business partner common stock for each Slack share.

The purchase of Slack is Salesforce’s biggest acquisition deal ever

The agreement, which is Salesforce’s largest acquisition in its 21-years history, gives the cloud-based CRM software the opportunity to expand its services into office communication technology.

Marc Benioff, Salesforce‘s Chair and CEO, said about the agreement with Slack: “Stewart and his team have built one of the most beloved platforms in enterprise software history, with an incredible ecosystem around it.

“This is a match made in heaven. Together, Salesforce and Slack will shape the future of enterprise software and transform the way everyone works in the all-digital, work-from-anywhere world. I’m thrilled to welcome Slack to the Salesforce Ohana once the transaction closes.”

Stewart Butterfield, Slack CEO and Co-Founder, added: “Salesforce started the cloud revolution, and two decades later, we are still tapping into all the possibilities it offers to transform the way we work. The opportunity we see together is massive.”

Competing against Microsoft

The partnership with Slack, app which has over 130,000 paid customer, is expected to accelarate Salesforce’s competitiveness to outpace its main rival in the sector: Microsoft.

The usage of Microsoft Teams app has exploded during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Around 115 million users actively use the platform on a daily basis.

Salesforce and Slack alliance: Creating an operating system “for the new way to work”

The collaboration between Slack and Salesforce will enhance both companies in the digital world, enabling new ways for businesses to connect with clients, partners and employees in a single platform, or as they promise, offering “an operating system for the new way to work”.

How the platforms will merge together?

Slack will be integrated into Salesforce Customer 360 as its new interface, which means it will be operative across all Salesforce and its other business apps.

The ultimate goal of the agreement is to develop the “most extensive open ecosystem of apps and workflows for business and empower millions of developers to build the next generation of apps, with clicks not code.”
