Spotify has rolled out a new subscription plan for couples living under the same roof.
With the new Spotify Premium Duo, audio-loving pairs living together can get two individual Premium accounts under one single plan.
Each member can individually listen to ad-free, on-demand music from Spotify’s catalog, which currently includes over 50 million tracks and 1 million podcasts.
The new option works more or less like Spotify Family plan, where you can get up to six individual profiles under the same account.
The main difference is the price. Spotify Premium Duo costs $12.99 per month, so users can save of 2$ over the Spotify Family plan.
Talking about the new subscription plan, Alex Norström, Spotify’s Chief Freemium Business Officer, said: “Today we are proud to launch Spotify Premium Duo, a first-of-its-kind audio offering for just two people in the same household.
“Premium Duo includes our extensive music and podcast catalog and everything users love about Spotify Premium. […] We are thrilled to bring this unique Spotify Premium plan to even more markets around the world.”
The new Spotify service has been launched in 55 markets around the globe, including the UK, US, Ireland and Spain.
Spotify Premium Duo offers extra benefits for couples
The launch of the Premium Duo plan is not a coincidence.
A survey conducted by the streaming service some time ago revealed that 73% of couples love to listen music together to bring back happy memories.
The study also showed that 63% of couples listen to music together to build “their identity” and to create new “memorable moments”.
This has been the catalyst for Spotify to make a move and design a new membership for couples that includes some extra features.
What are the benefits of Spotify Premium Duo?
In addition to having a discount, with the new Premium plan, couples can create a joint playlist based on both person’s music tastes.
Pairs can access to an exclusive playlist called “Duo Mix”, which is updated regularly and where they can discover and listen to audio they both love.
If you are an existing Premium subscriber and want to switch to Premium Duo, you can do so from your “Account” page.
Your existing playlists and podcasts will be automatically saved on your new profile.
